การใช้ There is, There are

there is / there are แปลว่ามี ทั้งสองมีความหมายเหมือนกันแต่มีวิธีการนำไปใช้ต่างกัน ดังนี้

there is/there are = มี

There is + นามนับได้เอกพจน์/นามนับไม่ได้

There are + นามนับได้พหูพจน์

เนื่องจาก is/are เป็น verb to be ซึ่งมีการผันไปตาม tense ต่าง ๆ กิริยาสามช่องสำหรับ is คือ → is / was / been กิริยาสามช่องสำหรับ are คือ → are / were / been ดังนั้นเมื่อเราพบว่า there จับคู่กับ is/are ใน
รูปอื่น ๆ ก็ถือว่าแปลว่า มี เช่นเดียวกัน ดังนี้

there is, there are = มี ใช้กับสถานการณ์ที่เป็นปัจจุบัน (present tense)

(1) รูปประโยคบอกเล่า

There is + นามนับได้เอกพจน์/นามนับไม่ได้

There is a cat in my house. มีแมว 1 ตัวในบ้านของฉัน (แมวเป็นนามนับได้ที่เป็นเอกพจน์)
There is some bread in the fridge. มีขนมปังอยู่บ้างนิดๆหน่อยๆในตู้เย็น (ขนมปังเป็นนามนับไม่ได้)

There are + นามนับได้พหูพจน์

There are many birds in the sky. มีนกมากมายอยู่บนท้องฟ้า

(2) รูปประโยคปฏิเสธ

There is + not + นามนับได้เอกพจน์/นามนับไม่ได้

There isn’t any water in the glass. ไม่มีน้ำอยู่ในแก้วเลย (น้ำเป็นนามนับไม่ได้)

There are + not + นามนับได้พหูพจน์

There aren’t any tables in the kitchen. ไม่มีโต๊ะสักตัวในห้องครัวเลย

(3) รูปประโยคคำถาม

Is there + นามนับได้เอกพจน์/นามนับไม่ได้ + ?

Is there a toilet nearby here? มีห้องน้ำอยู่แถวๆนี้ไหม?
Is there any advice from the boss? มีคำแนะนำอะไรไหมจากเจ้านาย?

*** สำหรับคำตอบ ถ้าจะตอบว่ามีก็คือ Yes, there is. ถ้าจะตอบว่าไม่มีก็คือ No, there isn’t.

Are there + any + นามนับได้พหูพจน์ + ?

Are there any chairs for us in that room? มีเก้าอี้สำหรับพวกเราไหมในห้อง ๆ นั้น?
Are there any cats in your house? ที่บ้านของคุณมีแมวไหม?

*** สำหรับคำตอบ ถ้าจะตอบว่ามีก็คือ Yes, there are. ถ้าจะตอบว่าไม่มีก็คือ No, there aren’t.

there was, there were = มี ใช้กับสถานการณ์ที่เป็นอดีต (past tense)

There was no internet in the past. สมัยก่อนไม่มีอินเตอร์เน็ต
There were many people at the concert last night. มีคนจำนวนมากที่คอนเสิร์ตเมื่อคืน

there has been, there have been = มี ใช้กับสถานการณ์ที่เป็นอดีตต่อเนื่องมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน (perfect tense)

There has been a problem with the internet connection all morning. อินเตอร์เน็ตมีปัญหาตลอดทั้งเช้านี้เลย
There has been significant progress on the project. โครงการนี้มีความคืบหน้าอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ
There has been no news from the rescue team. ไม่มีข่าวใด ๆ จากทีมกู้ภัยเลย

there will be = มี ใช้กับสถานการณ์ที่กำลังจะเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต

There will be a new building built next year. จะมีการก่อสร้างตึกใหม่ปีหน้า
There will be lots of people at the event. จะมีคนไปงานอีเวนท์นี้เยอะ
There will be no more excuses. จะไม่มีข้ออ้างอีกต่อไป
In the future, there will be significant advancements in AI. ในอนาคต AI จะมีความก้าวหน้าที่สำคัญ
There won’t be any cake left by the time you arrive. จะไม่มีเค้กหลงเหลืออยู่แล้วตอนที่คุณกลับมา
